What is it that you do? What is your specialty?

I am a home maker, I run my family business, and I am an artisan.

How did you begin working with your craft?

I started working with my uncle when I was 12 years old. He had a handicraft business and a hotel. He would send me to sell his products on the streets of our town and he would also put me in charge of the hotel. My favorite part of working with my uncle was going out to the streets to sell. From that point in time, I started to dream of having my own business. I always dreamed of having a local cooperative where I would employ many artisans. Soon after, I met my husband, Francisco. We’ve been married for 18 years. My dad didn’t have any money and I remember him telling me that the only thing he could give me was his knowledge on how to be a good businessman. He gifted us a little bit of money so I could invest it into starting my handicraft business with Francisco.

What is your biggest dream/aspiration?

My dream is to keep working and to finish building my house. If God allows it, one day I wish to travel to see where Giovanna sells my products in the United States.

When I was young, me and a few other kids decided to go to a nearby tourist town to sell some necklaces. That’s how I began my life as a seller. That’s when I found beadwork and that is what I specialize in now and teach other women how to do as well.
